Ñaupay Community

Ñaupay,  community located in Lima – Peru with a high rate of poverty and infant mortality.

Ñaupay is a peasant community located 2,419 meters above sea level in the north of Lima – Peru.

It has 108 peasant families living in extreme poverty.

Basic services

  • Non-potable water
  • Electric light for hours
  • The community has 2 hours of electricity service on Sundays and a shared public telephone, which is very expensive to maintain
  • Houses do not have electric service

Community difficulties

  • Remote access to the community
  • They do not have basic services
  • Low budget for health and education
  • High infant mortality

Health Services

  • Only 1 medical post equipped only with the basics for simple pathologies. The most complex cases they must be referred to the hospital within 4 hours by car
  • It does not have antibiotics for diseases respiratory
  • It has only one doctor and one nurse

Main Pathologies

  • Infectious diseases
  • Parasitic diseases
  • Chronic malnutrition
  • anemia
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rural home birth

Education

  • Only 1 elementary school. Upon entering secondary school, they must go to the nearest school within 4 hours

Community strengths

  • Good community organization. Board of directors very active and committed
  • Organized and participatory community
  • Very committed health personnel and teachers with their work
  • Volunteer people

What can we do?

  • Providing basic supplies to the Medical Post would save lives and improve the health status of the population
  • Nutrition programs
  • Fight anemia with iron supplements
  • Implement a preschool center
  • Attend to special health cases that require complex intervention

ÑAUPAY is an organized and participatory community in which, with little investment, you can achieve many results.

With CAD $ 40 per month we can buy basic supplies for the Medical Post and iron supplement for the children.
